Terms of use
Last updated: 6 November 2026
The short version
- PlyPlanner is a free planning aid, not professional advice. It's provided "as is".
- The example projects are untested. They aren't official plans from any organisation. Check every measurement against a plan you trust before cutting.
- You're responsible for what you make and for your own safety. Follow your tools' instructions and recognised safety practice, and check with a qualified professional if you're unsure.
- Use PlyPlanner at your own risk. We're not responsible for wasted material, mistakes in cut lists or layouts, or anything you build with them, as far as the law allows.
About these terms
These terms apply when you use PlyPlanner at plyplanner.com, which is run by jden ("we", "us"). By using PlyPlanner you agree to them. If you don't agree, please don't use the site. How we handle data is explained separately in our privacy policy.
What PlyPlanner is
PlyPlanner is a free tool that suggests how to cut parts from sheets and boards. Its layouts, cut sequences, router paths, material and cost figures are estimates produced by software. They can be wrong, for example because of rounding, the grid used for odd shapes, an incorrect blade kerf or router bit size, or a mistake in what you entered.
We may change, suspend or stop PlyPlanner, or any feature of it, at any time. Your projects are stored only in your browser; keep your own backups with Export project.
Example projects
The example projects, including the owl boxes, birds of prey boxes, garden bird boxes, bee hive nucs and cabinets, are illustrations only:
- they are untested: we haven't built them and they may contain errors;
- dimensions are simplified from typical published sizes and leave out joints, rebates, bevels and fixings;
- they are not official plans or advice from any wildlife, conservation or beekeeping organisation, and no such organisation endorses PlyPlanner;
- they may not suit your materials, location or purpose.
Before building, check every dimension against a design you trust. For nest boxes, follow current guidance on siting, materials and timing, and remember that wild birds, their nests and eggs are protected by law. For bee equipment, check it against your frames and hive system and follow good beekeeping practice.
Your responsibility
- Check all measurements, layouts and cut lists yourself before cutting any material.
- Work safely. Saws, routers and other tools can cause serious injury. Follow the manufacturer's instructions, use the guards and safety devices provided, wear suitable eye, ear and dust protection, and follow recognised safety guidance for woodworking (in the UK, the Health and Safety Executive publishes guidance on woodworking machinery and wood dust).
- Only use tools and techniques you're trained and competent to use. If you're unsure about a design, a technique or whether something will be strong and safe enough, get advice from a qualified professional before you start.
- Make sure anything you build is safe and fit for its purpose, including anything for animals or other people.
- Don't misuse the site, for example by trying to break, overload or interfere with it.
Our liability
PlyPlanner is provided free of charge and "as is", without any promise that it is accurate, complete, error-free or suitable for any particular purpose.
As far as the law allows, we are not liable for any loss or damage arising from your use of PlyPlanner or the example projects, including wasted or damaged materials, the cost of time or tools, mistakes in anything you build, or any indirect or consequential loss.
Nothing in these terms excludes or limits any liability that cannot legally be excluded or limited, including liability for death or personal injury caused by our negligence, or for fraud. If you use PlyPlanner as a consumer, your statutory rights are not affected.
Content and trade marks
The PlyPlanner name, design and software belong to us. You may use the cut lists, layouts and exports you create for any purpose, including commercial work. Names of other organisations or products mentioned on the site belong to their owners and are used only to describe things.
Changes and governing law
We may update these terms; the date at the top shows when. If the changes matter, we'll ask you to confirm them when you next open PlyPlanner. These terms are governed by the laws of England and Wales, and the courts of England and Wales have jurisdiction, although if you live elsewhere in the UK you may also bring proceedings in your local courts.
